Mattel Hosts First-Ever Global Licensing Summit

Mattel hosted a fashion show featuring licensee product during Tuesday night’s gala at Mattel’s Global Summit in Miami last week.

Mattel hosted its first-ever global licensing summit in Miami last week. The three-day event brought together licensees from around the globe as the toymaker revealed its plans for each brand. The event encouraged licensees to interact and network through information sessions, a trade show, and a gala for nearly 700 attendees on Tuesday night.

During the gala, Mattel’s first-ever global awards were given out to licensees. The winners are as follows:

• Rookie of the Year: Umeko Pte.
• Best Product Softlines: C&A Modas
• Best Product Hardlines: Egmont
• Most Innovative Marketing: Dynacraft
• Licensee of the Year: Grendene
• Lifetime Achievement: Random House

Sofia by Sofia Vergara Home Launches at Kmart

Kmart, LF USA (a subsidiary of Hong Kong-headquartered multinational Li & Fung Limited), and Latin World Entertainment Licensing announced the launch of a new home collection by actress Sofia Vergara. Sold exclusively through Kmart, Sofia by Sofia Vergara Home will embody the glamour of the Modern Family star coupled with affordability.

The expansion of the Sofia by Sofia Vergara brand into the home category follows the popularity of the star’s apparel line, which launched exclusively with Kmart stores and on Kmart.com in the fall of 2011.

The line also features both bedding and bath products. The bedding collection includes decorative pillows, 400-thread count sheets, and three-piece bed sets. The bath collection offers fashion towels, rugs, shower curtains, and free-standing accessories, including soap dishes, toothbrush holders, lotion pumps, and waste baskets.

Sears/Kmart Offers Sandra by Sandra Lee Collection

This spring, TV star, entrepreneur, and best-selling author Sandra Lee launched her exclusive collection of home products, Sandra by Sandra Lee, at Sears and Kmart stores nationwide. The collection, available now, includes cookware, utensils, gadgets, bakeware, small kitchen appliances, tabletop items, and storage solutions.

The Sandra by Sandra Lee licensing agreement with Sears Holdings was entered into by Sandra Lee in association with Iconix Brand Group, Inc. The collection retails at a price range of $2.99 to $79.99 at Kmart, and from $4.99 to $139.99 at Sears.

Ludorum Partners with Gilt Groupe for Chuggington Promo

Ludorum, creators of Chuggington, partnered with Gilt Groupe, Inc., the online shopping destination, to launch a five day Chuggington retail event on Gilt Baby & Kids. It started Sunday, May 6 at 9 p.m. and runs through Friday, May 11 at 9 p.m. ET. The Chuggington sale will include toys, DVDs, puzzles, games, bedding, and more. Fans will also have the opportunity to purchase the new Chuggington DVD Wilson and the Ice Cream Fair before the title hits retail shelves on May 15, 2012. In addition, fans who purchase Chuggington TOMY products will receive a free gift—a Chuggington traffic safety vest for their child, part of Ludorum and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) “Think Safe, Ride Safe, Be Safe!” campaign to educate families about important traffic safety guidelines.

Ludorum and Gilt promoted the sale through several channels, including both group’s email communications, Gilt and Chuggington’s social media networks, blogger outreach, and a Twitter party that took place on Monday, May 7.
