Chalk of the Town Partners with The Art Therapy Project

Chalk of the Town-Art Therapy

Chalk of the Town has a new partnership with nonprofit The Art Therapy Project, which supports the healing of trauma survivors through art.

Ten percent of proceeds from Chalk of the Town’s t-shirt kit sales between August 13 and September 10 will go toward The Art Therapy Project; in addition Chalk of the Town will provide t-shirt kits to one of The Art Therapy Project’s youth groups.

Based in Manhattan, Chalk of the Town is known for its t-shirts with customizable “chalkboard” surfaces.

“Chalk of the Town has always been about the power of using art to express yourself. Joining together with The Art Therapy Project is the perfect way to get our chalkboard t-shirts to people they can really help,” said chief chalking officer Sondra Mansfield. “I’m so inspired by the work The Art Therapy Project does here in New York, so it’s an honor to contribute to their programming.”

Martha Dorn, executive director of The Art Therapy Project, said the new collaboration with Chalk of the Town will help to support mental health and wellbeing for children.

“Art Therapy is especially beneficial for youth who may not be able to express themselves verbally,” said Dorn. “The pandemic has caused the rate of anxiety and depression among children to increase dramatically and having a creative outlet to explore their feelings with a licensed art therapist is the only mental health service most of our youth clients receive.”
