‘Stranger Things’ Mobile Game Could Bring The Upside Down to Real World

Next Games announced plans to collaborate with Netflix to create a mobile game based on the Stranger Things series. The game is anticipated to launch in 2020.

 

The Finnish game developer and publisher announced that the free-to-play mobile game title based on the hit Netflix original series. The location-based puzzle RPG game is currently slated for release on iOS and Android platforms. Using location-based mechanics and Google Maps integration, players will be able to explore The Upside Down hidden around them in their daily travels and work with fellow fans to fight back against its emerging evils.

 

The mobile game will reimagine the Stranger Things universe in the style of an ’80s Saturday morning cartoon.

 

“Our core focus will be to deliver on Stranger Things’ rich and intense themes like friendship and supernatural adventure, and translate these into snack-sized entertainment on your mobile device,” said Teemu Huuhtanen, CEO, Next Games. “Combined with Netflix’s second-to none ability to reach audiences across the globe, we will deploy all of our accumulated creative and technological expertise to create a game for the fans of the series all around the world.”

 

Next Games’ business model is based on acquiring rights to create mobile games based on well-known entertainment franchises. The company’s strategy aims to launch at least one license-based game per year, although the company notes that the collaboration does not ensure the launch of the game or its future profitability.
