The Clio Awards, the international awards competition for the creative business, will honor Barbie with a Brand Icon Award at the 60th annual Clio Awards ceremony, hosted by Andy Cohen. Mattel’s Global Head of Dolls, Lisa McKnight, will accept the award on behalf of the brand on stage at the Manhattan Center in New York City on September 25.

“Both Clio and Barbie are celebrating our 60th anniversary this year,” said Clio President Nicole Purcell. “Our culture has evolved in so many ways over the last six decades, but Barbie’s iconic message has always remained the same. The brand’s commitment to empowering girls to believe in themselves, their choices and their unlimited potential is still so timely and so powerful, we’re thrilled to be able to honor that message and celebrate our shared history as part of our milestone awards ceremony.”

The Clio Brand Icon Award distinguishes a brand that has transcended the product or service it provides to become a permanent fixture in popular culture. Each recipient is chosen for elevating its brand to icon status among its peers, industry experts and consumers. As the original girl empowerment brand, Barbie’s purpose since 1959 has been the to inspire the limitless potential in every girl. As a global icon, Barbie is a leading girls’ brand with global brand awareness.

“Barbie has stood the test of time because of the brand’s ability to connect to culture and it’s innate purpose – to inspire girls around the world to be anything,” said Mattel’s McKnight. “Evolution makes a brand relevant, but purpose makes a brand eternal.  Today’s consumers want brands they can believe in and Barbie’s dedication to championing girls is what will make the next 60 years even better than the first.”
