SEGA Announces Plans for Sonic Boom

SEGA of America announced a robust lineup of Sonic Boom merchandising and promotional partners rolling out product throughout the rest of the year. Partners will focus on key categories including toys, apparel, and food and beverage.

SEGA has lined up best-in-class retailers, including Walmart, Target, Toys “R” Us, JCPenney, Kohl’s, and Barnes & Noble, to feature an array of offerings. Licensees include Archie Comics, Bioworld, Fifth Sun, Bakery Crafts, Isaac Morris, and Bulls I Toy. Accessory Innovations, Franco, Rubies Costume Co., Howard Keys, teNeues, and World Tech Toys will cover back to school, bedding, costumes, housewares, calendars, and remote control vehicles respectively for North America and Mexico in 2015. The program will be anchored by master toy partner TOMY, which will showcase new character looks and play patterns based on video games and TV series across plush, action figures, R/C, roleplay, vehicles, and novelty.

SEGA has also lined up promotional partners. A special Sonic Boom-branded ICEE Blue Raspberry flavor will launch nationwide. It will feature a custom designed ICEE and Sonic Boom 24-ounce cup, along with the opportunity to win prizes and unlock bonus game content from Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric for the Wii U system. Sonic and his friends will also partner with Del Taco to create a multiplatform campaign with in-restaurant, social media, and radio promotional components in top national markets such as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Dallas, and Miami.

Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric for Wii U and Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal for Nintendo 3DS launches on November 11, 2014 for North America.

Mezco Toyz to Launch New Mortal Kombat Collectibles

Mezco Toyz entered into an agreement with Warner Bros. to create a new series of collectibles based on the video game franchise Mortal Kombat.

Mortal Kombat celebrates more than two decades of success with nine games in its legacy and an all-new next generation platform game due to launch in spring 2015.

Mezco is in development on numerous lines based on the world of Mortal Kombat, starting with the new upcoming Mortal Kombat X game. Initial offerings include 3.75-inch figures, six-inch figures, accessories, bobble heads, plush figures, clip-ons, key chains, and more.

Mezco previewed several of the six-inch scale Mortal Kombat figures at New York Comic Con in October. Additional figures and more details will be revealed at Toy Fair 2015. Mezco’s Mortal Kombat lines will be available in stores starting 2015.

New Licensees on Board for LBX

Dentsu Entertainment USA, Inc. has signed licensees Fifth Sun, Trends International, LLC, and Zwyer Industries to its licensing roster for Little Battlers eXperience (LBX). The companies join master toy licensee Bandai America and its multi-product line of LBX Sprukits models.

Fifth Sun is creating a wide variety of boys apparel including T-shirts, thermals, tanks, hoodies, fleece, board shorts, active wear, outerwear, and underwear. Garments will be sold at gift, toy, and specialty stores and online, timed to holiday 2014.

Trends International manufactured a series of posters in all sizes and formats, set to launch this month. Posters will be sold at gift, toy, and specialty stores and online as well as in the Trends boutiques inside Toys “R” Us, Walmart, Kmart, and Target.

Zwyer created a hardcover, 80-page glossy art book featuring images from the LBX series. The book will be available in December at comic book stores nationwide and online.
