Mattel has revealed its newest collector doll: Barbie David Bowie. Released yesterday, timed to the 50th anniversary of David Bowie’s “Space Oddity,” this Barbie doll is dressed in classic Ziggy Stardust attire.
Bowie, whose career spanned five decades, was not just known for his music but also stood as a cultural icon throughout his life. This Barbie Signature doll celebrates his global and multigenerational impact with the Barbie David Bowie Doll.
A Gold Label doll, it will only be produced in limited quantities and come with a doll stand and Certificate of Authenticity.
The doll comes dressed as Bowie’s sci-fi alter ego, Ziggy Stardust. It features the iconic metallic ‘space suit’ with red and blue stripes and flared shoulder pads. Bowie’s signature cherry-red platform boots complete the look along with bold makeup – featuring the astral sphere forehead icon – and an inspired hairstyle. The doll will arrive in specially-designed packaging, displaying a collage of images from Bowie’s early career.
