Grumpy Cat has died at age 7. Cats may only have nine lives, but Grumpy Cat will forever be the cat that launched a thousand memes.

Grumpy Cat’s owners/management released the following statement over social media this morning on the death of the world’s grumpiest cat:

“We are unimaginably heartbroken to announce the loss of our beloved Grumpy Cat.

Despite care from top professionals, as well as from her very loving family, Grumpy encountered complications from a recent urinary tract infection that unfortunately became too tough for her to overcome. She passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, May 14, at home in the arms of her loving mommy, Tabatha.

Besides being our baby and a cherished member of the family, Grumpy Cat helped millions of people smile all around the world—even when times were tough.

Her spirit will continue to live on through her fans everywhere.”

Grumpy Cat topped Forbes list as the No. 1 Pet Influencer of 2017. As of this writing, Grumpy Cat has 2.4 million followers on Instagram, 1.5 million followers on Twitter, and 8.3 million followers on Facebook. Grumpy Cat has previously signed deals with Paws, Inc., on behalf of Garfield as well as GUND, Ganz, and TCG. Most recently, Grumpy Cat did a deal with BOBS by Skechers for branded shoes.
